Data Fusion: Combining Geological, Geophysical and Engineering Data Related Link:
Workshop Presentations Abstract deadline: 15 August 2007 This interdisciplinary workshop explores the optimum use of our industry's diverse datasets with the goal of deriving realistic, geologically sound static and dynamic reservoir models. The focus of the workshop will be on techniques of "data fusion" – this is the process of combining data and knowledge from heterogeneous sources with the aim of maximizing the useful information content. The goal of data fusion is to deliver a unified model that is better than the sum of its conceptionally and contextually different parts. Its goal is to go beyond just finding the least common denominator among imprecise and often contradictory datasets. Many of the key controls of reservoir quality and performance, such as porosity, permeability and, ultimately, recovery efficiency are largely determined by the geology of the field. The depositional environment, the rock and fluid compositions and a variety of diagenetic processes, all play important roles in determining how a reservoir will evolve. From early exploration through appraisal and development many different types of data are acquired, first, in order to access reservoir quality and later to predict reservoir performance. These data originate from many diverse sources, are measured on various scales, have different degrees of reliability, and are typically compiled and analyzed under different disciplines. This workshop will explore how concepts of data fusion can help to integrate these data in a consistent and complimentary fashion.
