Cairo, Egypt (24 May 2005) – The Second International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition was a resounding success that exceeded all expectations. The conference was held 16-19 May 2005 under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Sameh Fahmy, Minister of Petroleum for Egypt and organized and hosted by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the Egyptian Geophysical Society (EGS), the Egyptian Petroleum Exploration Society (EPEX), and the Egyptian Petroleum Association (EPA). The plenary session was attended by over 2000 people.

The participants represented 50 nations and 145 organizations from around the world. The technical program included 202 technical papers, eight Executive Sessions and eight Business Forums. In addition, almost 100 delegates participated in four field trips.

The exhibition covered more than 4200 net square meters and filled all available space. The Egyptian Night Gala Dinner at the Pyramids was attended by 500 guests. The Conference included three Anniversary Celebrations. It was the 25th Anniversary for EGS and EPEX as well as the 75th Anniversary of SEG.
